Ministers seeks steel companies help in 2BHK constructions

Hyderabad: Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy and Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao has appealed to the steel companies to extend all possible help in the construction of double bed room houses for poor.

The ministers, along with Housing Corporation chairman M. Bhoom Reddy, on Monday held a meeting with the managements of leading steel companies.

They told the steel companies that the managements of cement companies were selling cement at discounted prices of Rs. 230 per bag for the double bed room projects. Similarly, they said steel companies must offer huge discount to help the government in providing shelter to weaker sections.

The ministers said that the government was construction 2.60 lakh 2BHK units across Telangana State. Therefore, it would need about 1.45 lakh metric tonnes of steel for rural areas and 1.06 lakh MTs for 60,000 units in urban areas. Nearly 2.78 lakh MTs of steel is required for one lakh houses in GHMC limit.

Overall, nearly 5.27 lakh MTs of steel is needed for the construction of all proposed houses. They said that the government was promptly clearing the payments in a highly transparent manner. Therefore, they urged the managements to sell the steel at discounted prices.

Special Secretary Housing Chitra Ramchandran and other senior officials also attended the meeting. (INN)
