Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Dr. B. Rammohan has asked all the manufacturers of plastic and also all the shops and business establishments to follow the rules strictly. He said those failing to follow rules would face severe action which includes seizure of their manufacturing units etc.,
The Mayor instructed that after March 10, no one should use below 50 microns plastic bags. All the manufacturers have been asked to register their names with the concerned Deputy Commissioners and AMOHs of their respective circles by March 18 without fail.
Rammohan and GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, along with the senior officials of the Medical and Health Department conducted a meeting with all the manufacturing units and traders of plastic bags in GHMC Head Office today.
The Mayor said that special counters in all the circle and zonal offices would be opened for the convenience of the manufacturers, traders, to register their names in their respective circles and zones. So far, the GHMC has given ample time to all the traders in the GHMC limits to strictly implement the plastic bag below 50 microns inspite of special raids and also seizure of the shops still the plastic bags are being used below 50 microns.
He further instructed the manufacturers and traders to handover the plastic carry bags below 50 microns before 10th of March to GHMC officials without attracting any penalty. It has been observed that more than 800 plastic manufacturing and trading units are existing in the GHMC limits out of which only about 10% traders have been registered in GHMC.
The GHMC is planning to deploy 30 Environmental Engineers along with 300 Enforcement staff with the help of this the GHMC will be taking up massive raids who have not registered their names in the GHMC and also selling the plastic carry bags below 50 microns. He further stated that random inspections along with Commissioner will be conducted without further notice.
The GHMC Commissioner directed all the shop owners, business establishments, manufacturing units to provide two dustbins at their respective establishments for dry and wet segregation separately.
He said that for Environmental protection the GHMC is the only Corporation in the Country who has taken lot of initiatives to make the city pollution free and plastic ban.
The GHMC has taken up lot of initiatives and also awareness campaign for ban on plastic now similar campaigns will also be taken up to create awareness about the ill effects of usage of plastic bags below 50 microns in the coming days. (INN)
