Lady Haj pilgrims get 200 seats in ‘Mehram’ category

Muslim female candidates who wish to embark on Haj pilgrimage now have another reason to rejoice, as they can benefit from 200 seats allocated by the Government of India under ‘Mehram’ category.

AP State Haj Committee chairman Momin Ahammad Hussain announced that the Ministry of External Affairs Government of India has allocated a quota of 200 seats for distribution in the Mehram category.

He noted that as per Islamic Law a lady cannot undertake pilgrimage unless accompanied by a Mehram.

There are cases where a lady who wants to perform Haj, is left out while her only Mehram got a confirmation status.

In such cases the female intending pilgrim may apply for inclusion in the cover of her Mehram who is already selected for Haj 2016.

Such intending eligible lady pilgrims may submit their applications filled in all respects along with a requisite declaration on or before 23 May 2016.

He said that the Haj Committee of India will consider the applications on merit, in case of receipt of excess applications, draw of lots (Qurrah) will be conducted to allot the Haj seats to eligible lady Haj applicants.

In no case the last date will be extended in this category, he said.
