12% Muslim Quota: Congress burns 12 effigies of KCR

Hyderabad: The Congress party on Thursday organised yet another novel protest highlighting the failures of KCR Government in implementing the promise of 12% Muslim reservation.

Led by TPCC Minorities Dept chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, hundreds of Congress activists gathered at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday and at exactly 12 noon, they burnt 12 effigies of caretaker Chief Minister and TRS President K. Chandrashekhar Rao to express protest over his failure to honour the major electoral promise of giving 12% quota in jobs and education to Muslim community.

“Having cheated the Muslim community for four-and-a-half years on 12% reservation issue, KCR has adopted a questionable silence on the issue.

This is a proof that he was never serious on his promise. The promise of 12% Muslim quota was a ‘jumla’ by KCR which he used to get Muslim votes in 2014 elections.

Since his cheating and lies have been caught he fell silent. This time TRS is preparing to cheat the community with new promises. KCR had hurt our self-respect and we will not forgive him,” said Abdullah Sohail.

Abdullah Sohail informed that 12 effigies of KCR were also burnt by the leaders of Congress party’s Minorities Department across the Telangana State on Thursday. He said all protests were held in the premises of DCC offices.

He said that the TPCC Minorities Department would continue to hold symbolic protests twice/thrice a week till elections to keep the people reminded about the cheating done to them by KCR Government.

“When Congress party promised 5% Muslim quota in 2004 elections, it implemented the same in just 58 days after coming to power. Although the quota was later reduced to 4% on the directions of High Court, it is still under implementation in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States.

The 4% quota given by Congress party has brought an economic and educational revolution among Muslim community. Today we have thousands of engineers, doctors and professionals and also got 4% share in all the government jobs given in the last 14 years.

Our growth percentage could have been tripled if KCR would have honoured the promise of giving 12% reservation. Therefore, by not implementing 12% quota, KCR deprived lakhs of students and job aspirants the opportunity for additional 8% share. The sin committed by KCR and TRS is unpardonable,” he said.

Abdullah Sohail also announced that the Congress party would soon come up a detailed presentation on the role of Congress party in socio-economic and educational development of Muslim community and the failures of TRS Government.

He said that the Congress party would also unveil its manifesto for the minorities for next elections. He said that the Congress party has already announced that it would introduce a separate Sub-Plan for Minorities if voted to power.

Similarly, he said lot of schemes like creation of jobs, recruitment of teachers and Unemployment Allowance for jobless youth would benefit the minority communities to a great extent as they were the most deprived and victimised sections under TRS regime.

TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin, Sajid Shareef, Kaleemuddin Baba, Waliullah Sameer and other leaders participated in the protest at Gandhi Bhavan today. (INN)
