TS minister Harish Rao accuses Congress of provoking farmers

Hyderabad, INN: Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has accused the main opposition Congress party of provoking the farmers on the issue of compensation for land acquisition for Mallanna Sagar project.

Speaking after laying foundation stone for Mini Tank Bund at Kothapalli lake in Karimnagar on Sunday, Harish Rao said that very meagre compensation was paid to the farmers for the lands acquired during Congress regime.

Citing an instance, he said when Ponnala Lakshmaiah was the Irrigation Minister in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, only Rs. 1.30 lakh per acre was paid as compensation.

However, the Congress party is now demanding that the TRS Government pay Rs. 10-15 lakh per acre which is not justified.

Harish Rao said that the Congress party been provoking the farmers only to stall the irrigation projects in the State.
