Telugu writer Krishna Rao Triumphs Sahitya Academy

Telugu writer and senior journalist A. Krishna Rao won Sahitya Akademi award for 2018. Rao hails from Mahbubnagar district of Telangana State.

Rao has been awarded for his valuable translations on the works of the poet Padma Sachdev from Dogri language titled ‘Guppedu Suryudu, Marikonni Kavithalu’.

Chief minister KCR conveyed his gladness over Krishna Rao’s achievement and stated that the poet, journalist and author merited the award and wished him to stretch to greater heights in the literary field.

The Sahitya Akademi award for translation carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and an inscribed copper plaque, informed the secretary of Sahitya Akademi in a letter to A. Krishna Rao.

Mr. Rao was born to Ramaiah and Veeramma at Vejendla of Guntur district on July 1, 1939. He graduated with BA (Hons) from Andhra University in 1959.

During his college days, the writer received the first prize in short story, poetry and play categories in annual competitions for three consecutive years from 1957 to 1959.
