No cracks in Metro pillar, clarified HMRL

Hyderabad: Reacting to the reports circulating a section of media about a crack in a metro rail pillar at Khairtabad, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) Managing Director NVR Reddy Metro Rail clarified that news was incorrrect.

“It is not a load bearing metro rail pillar. It is a false brick wall at Khairatabad station to camouflage water and sewer line pipes.

The crack occurred as a result of a heavy vehicle hitting the camouflaging false brick wall. A police case was already been booked against the culprits,” Reddy said in a clarification today. He further said, “Metro pillars are very strong and no damage happens to them even if they are hit by heavy vehicles due to the built in protection system. No cracks will develop on metro pillars per se.

L&T engineers have already been alerted and directed to rectify the crack on the camouflaging brick wall immediately.” (INN)
