Formal system of internship will be introduced for engineering students: Arvind Kumar

Hyderabad: A formal system of internship to help students attain industrial exposure will soon be introduced by the State Government, said Secretary to Government of Telangana and HMDA commissioner Arvind Kumar.

Addressing the first year students of 38th batch of Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology (MJCET), Arvind Kumar said “a formal system of internship will give students better industrial exposure.”

The IAS Officer, who is also the incharge vice chancellor of Osmania University and Mahatma Gandhi university, said an institutional ranking similar to National Institutions Ranking Framework (NIRF) would be taken up by the State government for all colleges affiliated to Osmania University.

The system will be named “State Institutions Ranking Framework” and it will rank institutions judging performance on different criteria including academics, placements, quality of publications, student to teacher ratio, campus maintenance, etc.

“In the ranking system of NIRF, 30% weightage is given to teaching, learning and resources, another 30% to research and publications, another 30% for graduate outcome, 10% for outreach and inclusivity of students meaning inclusion of students of other states and countries and 10% to perception of peer performance of students. Such ranking system will help imporove the performance of the colleges in the State,” he said.

The institutional rankings of colleges to encourage a healthy competition among colleges and help further their standards, he added while expressing hope that when MJCET may rank among top three colleges by virtue of its achievements when SIRF is introduced.

Arvind Kumar said that a formal system of internship where we have an arrangement with companies form pharma, Information Technology and other sectors who offer internship program” is also being worked.

Such arrangement can help students gain better exposure to the industry, he said while adding that some courses that are industry specific and that multiply chances of employability are being contemplated.

He said one may have knowledge of the subject, but without presentation that knowledge may be underutilized. He said despite the difference in financial background, all parents have high hopes from their children. The children must realize their potential to the fullest.

He said that the habit of postponing, inertia or laziness prevents students from realizing their full potential, and many of them only work at 50% efficiency. This mindset must be changed, he said.

Secretary Sultan ul Uloom Education Society Zafar Javeed urged students to become specialists in their disciplines. He said this is an era of specialization, and one cannot survive without attaining expertise in the respective engineering discipline.

He also called upon studnets to take advantage of ultra-modern and state of the art resources to hone their engineering skills.” He advised parents to avoid being lenient to their children in matters of education.

Earlier, MJCET Advisor cum Director Dr. Basheer Ahmed delivered the welcome address while SUES Vice Chairman Mohammed Waliullah presented a memento to Arvind Kumar. Joint Secretary Nisar Ahmed, Treasurer Dr. Mir Akbar Ali Khan, Mohammed Jaffar, Prof. S.A.Wahab, Zia Nadeem, Aamer Javeed, Dr. Anupama Koneru, Vibha Asthana and others were also present on this occasion.

MJCET college journal titled Adsophos was also released on this occasion. The students also performed an anti-ragging skit to create awareness about ragging and instill confidence among the freshers. (INN)
