Social Work orientation organized at MANUU

Hyderabad: The Department of Social Work, Maulana Azad National Urdu University organized an Orientation Programme for newly admitted students of Master of Social Work (MSW) from 9th to 21st August.

Prof. Mohd Shahid, Head, Dept. of Social Work while introducing the programme emphasized the need &importance of orientation programme for the MSW course.

He viewed Knowledge, Skill and Attitude as the core components and opined that the department would be committed to inculcate same through classes, concurrent field work practicum, and skill lab exercises.

Documentary “India Untouched” was also screened to sensitise them about caste based inequalities and oppression.

The Medical Officer, Urban PHC, Hakeem Shah talked about primary health system and services for community. He also stressed role, a social worker can play in providing better health services to marginalised section of society.

Dr. Farzana Khan, Programme Head, My Choices foundation pointed issues of domestic violence and child sexual abuse. She encouraged students to work for women’s issues. Mazhar Husain, Director of COVA discussed about the empowerment and capacity building of marginalised section of society.

One day workshop on usage of participatory techniques in the field of social work was also organized. Students were also taken to Don Bosco Navajeevan for exposure visit as part of the orientation programme. (INN)
