Become voracious readers of books beyond social media : Ex DGP Ansari to Media students

Hyderabad: Acquire competence in your respective fields and become voracious readers of books beyon Social Media like whatsApp and facebook, advised Mr. Mohammed Wazeer Ansari, IPS (Retd.), former Director General of Police, Govt. of Chattisgarh to  Media students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on Thursday.

In a guest lecture on “Police and Media Relations in the Era of Information”, organized by Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), Mr. Ansari, IPS said that media and police are two integral pillars of democracy. Both are important for a healthy democracy.

Addressing the students, Mr. Ansari noted that the image of both media and police is not very positive in the society. However, both play their unique role in keeping the society safe and healthy. Mr. Ansari recalled his experiences of handling petty crimes and organized crimes.

He shared tips of investigating organized crimes for reporting it. While responding to questions from students on crime reporting, he tipped them on how to source information for crime beat reporting. Further, the former secretary of Maulana Azad Education Foundation advised the students from minority communities to read about local cultural ethos wherever they work.

He also pointed out that the community could come out of its misfortune only through good education and competence. Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Head, Dept. of MCJ, welcomed the guest and explained that the lectures under Izhar-e-Khayal Series are meant to familiarize students with practical experiences of field experts and eminent personalities.

Book titled ‘Denial and Deprivation’ by Mr. Abdur Rahman, IPS Officer from Maharashtra was launched at the hands of Prof Mohammad Fariyad  and Mr. Ansari.

As organizer of the program, Prof. Fariyad presented a shawl, memento and a book on journalism of Maulana Azad to the guest. Faculty members of the Department – Mr. Meraj Ahmed and Mr. Tahir Qureshi were also present.
