Women Safety Wing launches Public Safety Clubs in five colleges

Hyderabad: Telangana State Women Safety Wing has initiated pilot program of launching Public Safety clubs for Women and Children in (5) colleges of Hyderabad.

The pilot project has been started with help of ‘Save the Children and Lead Life NGO’s. Implementation of ‘Volunteering Programme’ in educational institutions was taken place at Sri Vivekananda Institute of Engineering and Technology auditorium today in presence of Chief Guest Andrew Fleming and Swati Lakra, IGP L&O and WSW, Telangana.

‘Safety Club’- for girls and women in each educational institution will be established to create awareness on various girls and women safety issues within the colleges as well as in their neighbourhood.

Safety Club members will be the facilitator who would bridge the gap between the youths who are in need of support and the existing response mechanisms (Police, Legal Aid, Public Health, Education and others) available in the city for addressing girls’ and women safety issues.

Speaking on the occasion, Swati Lakra said, “After listening to the young audience, I feel motivated and encouraged that we can make Telangana safer place for girls and women. Women Safety team is going to work closely with the young students to ensure the safety and security of girls”.

Dr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, mentioned, “It is the need of the hour to give the power to the youth to take on the responsibilities of making our community safer place for girls and women. Safety Club will be a great opportunity to channelize the youth energies in addressing girls’ safety issues”.

The colleges which are part of the Pilot project on ‘Volunteering Programme’ are (Badruka College of Commerce And Arts, Arora Degree and PG College, Jagruti Degree & PG College, Sreyas Institute of Engineering & Technology and Indira Priyadarshini Govt. Degree College for Women) in Hyderabad City.

More than 3000 students from 12 colleges were present to mark the eventful day. (INN)
