Hyderabad: The second phase of the Kanti Velugu program was inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the presence of Chief Ministers of Kerala, Delhi and Punjab Pinarayi Vijayan, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann respectively, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and CPI National General Secretary D Raja.
At the new Collectorate complex, the leaders first inaugurated the event. After that, the second phase of free eye testing was started. On this occasion, the leaders including CM Pinarayi Vijanay, Arvind Kejriwal Bhagwant Mann, CM KCR, Akhilesh Yadav and D Raja presented eyeglasses to the beneficiaries of Kanti Velugu Dharawat Bichamma, Manda Annapurna, Ramanathan, Kolam Jyoti, Venkateshwarlu, Sheikh Gausia Begum.
On this occasion, Health Minister Harish Rao and Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari briefed the national leaders about the Kanti Velugu program. The Kanti Velugu program aims to completely eradicate the diseases of blindness in the state and also to see the light in the eyes of people.
In the first phase, lakhs of people were given eye examinations and medicines and spectacles were given on the spot. Others were referred to government and private hospitals for operations based on the severity of the problem.On the occasion of the commencement of the second phase of the programme, the State Health Department has made extensive arrangements in the new Collectorate. Camps have been prepared so that the details of the program are known at the field level. Tables for registration, online, eye tests and distribution of medicines and spectacles were set up stall-wise. (INN)
