Hyderabad: The country’s progress in science and technology is measured in terms of the patents per million persons. Japan with highest patents per million tops the list and China is surging ahead. India need to strenghten its research and also come out of its hesitance in filing patents to catch up with the world. For this the Universities need to encourage quality research and also have in place a Intellectual Property Rights Policy, said Prof. Tabrez Ahmed, Professor Legal Studies, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) today while delivering special lecture ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ organized by Department of Public Administration. Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor presided over the lecture.
Prof. Tabrez Ahmed also threw light on the ethical and moral issues involved in intellectual property rights and wondered what will happen if non-humans like Artificial Intelligence driven Robos get patent. The present system of patent is not in favour of the poor as patent policy will make things out of reach for the common man. He concluded that the IPR regime has unleashed a competition which is leading to innovative research and the development of cutting edge technology.
Prof. Ainul Hasan in his presidential remarks raised the concern on copy rights and gave many examples of plagiarism of the intellectual work. He has implored upon the participants to engage themselves in quality research.
Dr. Syed Najiullah, Head, Dept. of Public Administration in his welcome speech threw light on the importance of the topic and said the lecture is in sync with the vision of the University to excel in research and academics.
