Ganesh Immersion is peaceful: DGP

Hyderabad: Ganesh immersion is going on very well and this immersion will be continued till Friday, said Director General of Police Anurag Sharma here on Thursday.

The DGP watched the live feed of Ganesh procession from his office through Central Command and Control System along with senior police officers from morning to till late night.

Around 4.30 PM, the DGP went for aerial survey by helicopter along with Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy, Additional DGP of Law and Order Anjani Kumar.

Anurag Sharma said that lakhs of people have participated in the Ganesh procession despite heavy rains.

By 6 pm on Thursday, as many as 1248 idols were immersed in different tanks including Tank Bund as against the 11,074 idols that were installed as per police records.

The Khairabad Ganesh immersion was completed by 2.30 PM while the Balapur Ganesh immersion may be taken place by midnight, he informed.

The DGP also said that the police officials are closely monitoring the procession from the command and control system. As many as 12,000 CC and video cameras have been installed across the twin cities on procession routes and all routes are being watched carefully by police officials.

Anurag Sharma said that no untoward incidents were reported so far.

A total of 25,000 policemen have been deployed on duty including 1600 officers and men and 10 APSP from Andhra Pradesh and 200 Officers and Men from Chattisgarh along with 13 companies of Central Para Military forces including RAF, CISF and CRPF and two teams of NDRF are stationed at Tank Bund and Saroornagar tanks to meet any eventuality.
