Harish Rao meets Dattatraya over river water sharing

Hyderabad: Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattaraya on Sunday held a meeting with Telangana Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and Vedire Sri Ram, Advisor, Ministry of Water Resources, Govt. of India,

Addressing a press conference later, Dattatraya informed that the Apex Board, under the chairmanship of Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi, would meet in New Delhi on September 21.

The meeting will be attended by K. Chandrashekar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively, to discuss irrigation projects on Krishna and Godavari Rivers.

This meeting is aimed at the resolution of disputes between the two Telugu states that arisen out of the AP Reorganisation Act, he said.

Dattatraya said that the meeting of two Chief Ministers was a welcoming sign and the irrigation projects in both the states need to be completed as scheduled so as to keep their project cost under control.

He said that he would meet Uma Bharathi before September 21 and apprise her of the stand of both the States.

Dattatraya desired that the two states resolve their disputes arising out of the awards of Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, Krishna Board etc.,

He said injustice has been done with Telangana during the previous Congress regimes. He blamed the Congress regimes for the disputes with Karnataka and Maharashtra earlier.

He said it was due shortsightedness of Congress party there was a dispute between two Telugu speaking states. However, he assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would do justice to both the States.

He said that the state unit of BJP party would soon meet the Prime Minister and request him to accord National Project status to Kaleshwaram project. The Godavari has abundant water and the projects have to be completed in a phased manner.

Bandaru Dattatraya strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the soldiers of Indian Army in Jammu-Kashmir today and stated that terrorism in any form has no place in the society.

He said that the Prime Minister was touring the world to seek international support for wiping out terrorism from this country and the world.

He severely criticized Pakistan which has roots of terrorism and spreading out the tentacles across the world. (INN)
