Railway Board chief holds safety review meeting

Hyderabad: Railway Board chairman A.K. Mittal complemented South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Ravindra Gupta for maintaining the Zone as “No Consequential Accident Zone” during the video conference held today from Railway Board, New Delhi.

He appreciated the efforts initiated by SCR in providing safety and improving asset reliability.

The Chairman, Railway Board along with Board Members conducted a Safety Review Meeting with all General Managers of the Zonal Railways through video conference.

Appraising the safety records of SCR, Ravindra Gupta informed the Chairman that Zone is keeping top vigilance on safety and continuously monitoring the situation. He also informed that minor incidents of unsafe conditions are also reviewed with utmost care and deep analysis so that no such incidents will be repeated.

Later, Ravindra Gupta also held a review meeting with Principal Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers of all the six Divisions on the Zone on Monday at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad.

Addressing the meeting, Ravindra Gupta emphasized on the need to focus on precautions to be observed during winter and alertness in issues concerning safety of rail condition, weld failures etc., on the Zone on a continuous basis.

The General Manager sought the issue of corrosion dealt on top priority as a special drive for two weeks, officers and supervisors are instructed to conduct intensive inspections in corrosion prone sections so as to enhance safety standards on the Zone’s network.

He also advised to all the Divisional Railway Managers to undertake inspection of the training centers located in their respective jurisdictions and initiate measures to enhance quality of training given to the railway staff particularly safety category.

These efforts will definitely provide dividends in the long run in terms of safety, he said.

Ravindra Gupta suggested awards for the staff who are showing alertness in identifying the unsafe features of the assets on regular basis to provide motivation and dedication during the duty.

He also instructed to inquire deeply and analyze carefully to find the causes of unsafe incidents and fix the responsibility in case of erring staff.

Senior officials including Additional General Manager A.K. Gupta were also present at the review meet at Rail Nilayam. (INN)
