Sudhir Commission suggests 9-12% quota for Muslims

Hyderabad: The Commission of Inquiry to study the Socio Economic and Educational Status of Muslims in Telangana headed by former bureaucrat G Sudhir on Saturday made its report available to the public on the State Government’s website.

The panel, which was formed in March 2015 to study the socio-economic conditions of Muslims, in its report suggested the government to provide 9 to 12 per cent reservation to members of Muslims community in state jobs and education.

The panel made 12 recommendations to the government to empower the Muslim community. The panel said that the government should include Meher community of Muslims in the SC community and provide them quota.

It also suggested the government to implement Urdu the second language status in the state. Likewise it also asked the government to immediately recruit Urdu teachers in government schools.

The panel suggested the government to provide for sub-plan for Muslims in the state budget and create a special fund to encourage start-ups by members of Muslim communities.

The panel also urged the government to give land to poor Muslims in rural areas. It also asked the government establish Equal Opportunity Commission.

The commission also asked the government to take steps to protect Wakf properties in the state.

The Commission also asked the government to take steps to increase the number of Muslim women in employment. (INN)
