No suicides by drought-hit farmers: Dy CM

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister (Revenue) Mohammed Mahmood Ali on Monday denied of suicide by drought-hit farmers of Telangana State.

In his written reply to a question raised by Congress MLA T. Jeevan Reddy and others in State Legislative Assembly, the Deputy CM admitted that 2015-16 year was badly affected by severe drought in the State.

He said that the State Government have declared 231 mandals in seven districts were declared drought hit in Khariff 2015-16.

They include 64 mandals in Mahabubnagar, 64 in Medak, 36 in Nizamabad, 33 in Rangareddy, 22 in Nalgonda, 19 in Karimnagar and 11 mandals in Warangal district.

Mahmood Ali said that the State Government has released an amount of Rs. 702.71 crore and it was under process for distribution to the affected farmers through transfer to bank account by way of cheques through Agriculture Department. (INN)
