Radio Charminar celebrates anniversary with Sufi Qawwali

City based channel Radio Charminar 107.8 FM celebrated its first anniversary with a soulful qawwali performance on January 1 at Ahle Baith High School in Hyderabad.

Popular qawwals Ahsan Hussain Khan and Adil Hussain Warsi warmed up the evening with their verses and vocals.

Noted among participants who enjoyed the performance were Deputy Mayor of GHMC Baba Fasihuddin, philanthropist Azhar Maqsusi and Radio Charminar chairman Hassam Rahimtula.

The channel airs shows in Deccani Urdu for Hyderabadis to promote Urdu and local culture, says Radio Charminar programming head Abdul Samad.

“Apart from entertainment we focus on social subjects like education, career, health, women and empowerment, he added.

“In addition to radio shows, we conduct seminars, camps and workshops for young generation.”

The channel airs shows such as ‘Samaaji Masayel’ to discuss social issues, ‘Mehfil-e- Ghazal’ and ‘Ish Sufiyana’ to enlighten listeners.

We thought of celebrating our first anniversary in a unique style hence organized the Sufi Night, which very much connects us with Hyderabad’s culture of Sufi Qawwali, remarked Samad.
