TRS Govt committed for women empowerment: Dy Speaker

Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Padma Devender Reddy said that the TRS Government was committed for the empowerment of women in the State.

She was addressing the Women’s Day function organised by Telangana Rashtra Samithi at its party headquarters Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday. The meeting was presided by TRS Mahila President T. Uma and attended by Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha and other women legislators and leaders.

The Deputy Speaker said parents should not show any discrimination towards their daughters and provide them equal opportunities in education and growth. He said that the families need to change their mindset towards girl children.

Accusing previous regimes of neglecting empowerment of women, Padma Devender Reddy said that the TRS Government has been taking several measures to extend best opportunities to women.

She said schemes like ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ and ‘Shaadi Mubarak’ were launched to provide financial assistance for the marriage of poor girls. She said that double bed room houses and three-acres land for Dalits were being registered in the name of women beneficiaries.

She said 50% reservation has been provided to women in marketing committees and government has been recognising the role played by women during Telangana movement.

Later, the Deputy Speaker also participated in the Women’s Day celebrations at the State Secretariat. (INN)
