Minor Raped in Rural Area, Gets Treatment in Hyderabad

A girl student of 9th class, raped in Bodepally village of Balkonda Mandal in Nizamabad on December 31, was shifted to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad for treatment after intervention of State Minorities Commission (SMC).

Hyderabad based SMC took suo moto cognizance of the incident of rape and issued notices to Nizamabad’s Collector and Superintend of Police seeking a detailed report.

SMC chairman Abid Rasool Khan said he spoke with Nizamabad MP K. Kavita regarding the rape, and sought her intervention in the case. Following it, orders were issued to shift the patient to DRDO Apollo Hospital at Kanchanbagh, Mr. Khan said.

Nizamabad SP reportedly informed the SMC that the accused has been arrested and charged with various sections for the offense committed.

While appreciating prompt action taken by both Collector and SP, Mr. Khan also lauded Mrs. Kavita for helping rape victim in getting treatment at the private hospital at government expenses.

A 3 member committee comprising women advocates has been constituted by the SMC to study the case, and submit a report. The advocates have already interacted with the victim, and her family members.

In addition, the SMC recommended the Telangana government to sanction ex-gratia amount of 5 lakh, and another 5 lakh towards complete cost of treatment. It also recommended for speedy and fair trial.
