TS Govt will hasten up setting up of new degree colleges: Dy CM

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister  Kadiyam Srihari said that the State Government would hasten up the process for establishment of new degree colleges in the State.

In his answer to a question raised by Congress MLA T. Jeevan Reddy and others during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, the Deputy CM said that after formation of Telangana State, government did the mapping of junior and degree colleges and identified several mandals and assembly constituencies for establishing junior and degree colleges respectively.

Speaking on the issue, Jeevan Reddy said that the then Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had sanctioned several junior and degree colleges in 2008-09. In response, Kadiam admitted that the previous government had sanctioned 63 junior and degree colleges.

However, he said that the sanction remained on paper and no places were identified to set up the colleges. He said as per the State Government’s KG to PG free education drive, the present government has identified suitable land for the colleges and they would be set up soon.

The Deputy CM also said that the State Government was ready to regularise the services of junior contract lecturers. However, he said that the regularisation was pending as the matter was going on in a court. (INN)
