Two nurses suspended for administering expired injection

Hyderabad, March 26 : The Telangana Government on Sunday suspended two nurses for administering expired injections to patients. The junior doctors have been served memos for the lapse.

It may be mentioned that at least 10 children fell sick on Saturday night after they were administered injections which had expired. On receipt of information, Health Minister Dr. Lakshma Reddy directed Director of Medical Education M. Ramani to visit the Gandhi Hospital and submit an interim report. After visiting the hospital and interacting with the parents of affected children, the DME announced the suspension of two staff nurses Shobha and Sunitha. She said a memo has been issued to junior doctor Dr. Naveen Singh who was on duty.

Speaking to media persons, the DME clarified that the expired injections were not supplied by the State Government, but they were brought in from outside. She said a probe has been ordered to ascertain as to how expired injections were brought to the hospital. She said a two-member expert panel of senior doctors has been constituted to conduct a thorough probe into the incident. She said that the panel has been asked to submit its report within two days. She assured that stern action would be taken against all the persons responsible for medical negligence.
