CM announces hike in Mess charges of hostel students

Hyderabad, March 27 : Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Monday announced a hike in Mess charges of hostel students across the Telangana State. This will benefit nearly 17 lakh students.

The students are primarily categorized into those staying in government hostels and studying; 2. Students having Hostels attached to their colleges; Students managed Hostels and students who are Day Scholars. The

For Pre metric students studying in 3rd to 7th Standard), Mess charges have been increased from present Rs. 750 to Rs. 950 per month. Similarly, for 8th to 10th Standard, charges have been increased from Rs. 850 to Rs 1100 per month.

For Post Metric (Intermediate to Degree), existing Mess charges of Rs. 1050 per month have been increased to Rs. 1400 per month. This will benefit nearly 4 lakh students.

There are four categories among the students having attached Hostels, Students managed hostels and students who are day scholars. For students pursuing Professional courses, hike if from Rs 962 to Rs 1500 per month; PG Courses – From Rs 682 to Rs 1500 per month; Degree Courses -From Rs 520 to Rs 1000 per month and Intermediate – From Rs 520 to Rs 750 per month. This will benefit nearly 13 lakh students.

Under Students managed Hostels, Day Scholars category for Professional Courses, hike is from Rs 442 to Rs 650; Post Graduate Courses – From Rs 442 to Rs 650 per month; Degree Courses – From Rs 325 to Rs 500 per month and Intermediate Courses – From Rs 325 to Rs 500 per month. This will benefit about 18 lakh students.

The financial burden on the State’s Exchequer due to this move would be of about Rs. 117 Crore per year.
