Govt Schools are ‘Educational Slums’: JIH Chief

Government schools are educational slums, said Jamat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) state chief Hamid Mohammed Khan at the launch of Dreams Choked, a documentary on state of education in Telangana.

“I was a student of a government school”, he informed the audience at the FAPCCI auditorium in Hyderabad yesterday.

The 30 minutes long documentary was shot and directed by students, and produced by Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Telangana State.

The documentary screening was marred by a few technical glitches that not just disrupted the show for about 10 minutes but also created a strong impression of it being made by non-professionals.

Referring to deplorable conditions of government schools depicted in the documentary, former Osmania University vice chancellor Suleman Siddiqui said things haven’t changed much since he studied in a govt. school.

Prof. Siddiqui noted that the world has progressed from modern to post modern, but the conditions in govt schools remain the same.

“Anybody cannot be educated like this. Things have to change”, he added.

While lauding efforts of the team behind the documentary, Prof Siddiqui advised students to focus on self-learning in the Internet era.

Speaking from the audience, a leader of All India Ideal Teachers Association (AIITA) said the organization would spread the message of the documentary throughout Telangana State.
