Indian street magician Ishamudin Khan to Perform at NALSAR on Feb 6

Internationally acclaimed traditional Indian street magician, Ishamudin Khan will give scintillating performance tomorrow at Centre for Legal Philosophy and Justice Education (CLPJE) in NALSAR University.

The magaician, whose take on the Great Indian Rope Trick is ranked 20th in the top 50 magic tricks in the world, will perform along with his team of consists of jugglers, magicians and acrobats at 6 pm in the university located in Shamirpet.

When asked why the law school is organizing this event, a NALSAR student Srujana Bej said before the advent of television and the internet street performers and folk artists have, for centuries, entertained India’s masses.

“But unfortunately, these street performers are considered beggars under law in most Indian states, and their considerable skills and rich heritage reduced to being equated with seeking alms,” said Ms Bej.

She further said that the street performers will face regular harassment at the hands of the police as beggary is a criminal offense.

“We therefore also need to think about how we have come to create sanitised public spaces that do not welcome street performance any more.”
