Hyderabad: National Book Trust Chairman Baldeobhai Sharma asked the students of MANUU on Wednesday to acquire additional skills while continuing with their regular education.
The Government of India, he said, has been demonstrating keen interest on ways to improve the employability of students by focusing on Skill Development programme.
“Publishing of books is one area that can fetch reasonable returns to students once they complete their education and take it up as part-time or full time employment,” he told students and staff after inaugurating the seven-day course in book publishing. “This is a certificate course. It will fetch you money,” he added.
The course has been organized by the NBT in collaboration of MANUU’s University Grants Commission (UGC)-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC).
Delivering the inaugural address, Sharma said that NBT has been organising such short-term courses in different parts of the country. He said during the course the participants would learn the process of editing, printing publishing and marketing.
Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, In-charge Vice-Chancellor of MANUU, asked the participants to make full use of the course. He expressed happiness over the participation of MANUU research scholars in the course. He presented a memento to Sharma.
Dr. M A Sikandar, University Registrar, thanked the NBT Chairman for selecting MANUU for organizing the course. “We would like to organize more such courses as well as book fairs at MANUU in the future,” he said.
Baldeobhai Sharma, speaking with the Journalism and Mass Communication students earlier on Tuesday, bemoaned “the falling standards and ethics among journalism practitioners.” He felt that journalism was not the profession where the single most objective should be making money. “It is a profession where one gets an opportunity to work for the society and make the world a better place to live,” he said.
Prof. Ehtesham Ahmad Khan, Dean Mass Communication and Journalism at MANUU, profusely thanked Sharma for sparing time to speak with the students. (INN)
