Union Minister Tomar visits NIRD

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Rural Development Narendra Singh Tomar visited the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

As part of the visit to the Institute, the Minister also paid a visit to the Rural Technology Park (RTP) located on the NIRD&PR campus. He observed various technology units like Compressed Stabilised Mud-blocks, Neem Oil Extraction and Cake Making,

Home-based Products, Tribal Jewellery, Honey Bee Keeping, Ethnic Bags, Leaf Plate Making, Hand Made Paper Conversion, Mushroom Cultivation, Hydroponics, Food Processing through Solar, De-hydration Units.

He also interacted with the technology unit partners besides visiting the various model houses constructed with eco-friendly construction material.

The Union Minister released a CD on the Compressed Stabilised Mud-blocks making technology which is titled as ‘The Mud Matters’.

He appreciated the work being carried by NIRD&PR through its RTP unit and hoped that the efforts of RTP will help in improving the rural employment besides addressing the issues of global warming.

Tomar interacted with the ‘Surya Mitra’ trainees who are undergoing solar technician training programme and expressed the hope that this training will help in meeting the shortage of solar technicians in the country.

The Union Minister was accompanied to the different units by Dr. W R Reddy, Director General, NIRD&PR, Dr Ramesh Sakthivel, Associate Professor and Head I/c, MD Khan, Senior Consultant and B N Mani, Project Engineer. (INN)
