GHMC to strengthen the Disaster Management Cell

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to strengthen the Disaster Management Cell wherein all line departments would depute at least 10 officers from their respective departments to form quick reaction teams to attend quick emergency situations.

The team members will be given training in dealing with emergency situations. All line departments will contribute an imprest fund to the GHMC to tackle emergency situations. The Disaster Management Cell will procure modern equipments which are not available with police, fire depts.

etc., like life detection equipments, IR cams, oxygen cylinders to trace the alive victims trapped in the any structural collapse debris. It will also make a civil defense force by imparting training to the common public, especially youth.

In this connection a Disaster Preparedness Meeting with all line departments held at GHMC Head Office under the chairmanship of HMWS&SB Managing Director Dana Kishore.

The officials gave certain suggestions to involve RWAs, NGOs and to coordinate with the GHMC officials to tackle during emergency situation.

GHMC Vigilance Director Viswajeeth Kampati said that the GHMC has already provided one control room at GHMC Head Office where all the line department officials could assemble during emergency situations to coordinate and to resolve the grievances received from the public on priority. (INN)
