New Delhi: Telangana IT Association (TITA), which has been playing an active role in the development of Telangana’s development, has achieved a major national recognition in the form of Skoch awards for its Digithon initiative and its contribution towards creation of an artists’ site for Department of Culture.
TITA’s Digithon team received the awards today at Skoch Summit held at New Delhi, along with State department officials.
In line with the State government’s efforts to improve digital literacy among its citzens, TITA had initiated the 100K Digithon campaign with an aim to create 1 lakh digital literates across the State.
With the dedicated efforts of 25,000 volunteers and planned execution, about 1,83,000 people had be trained digitally.
As a part of the award screening process carried out recently, TITA President Sundeep Kumar Makthala made a presentation to the Skoch jury on how the initiative is being implemented.
Recognising the large scale impact on imparting the digital literacy training to people, Digithon has been chosen among the entries received from across the country. Sundeep Kumar Makthala received the Skoch award today.
TITA’s Digithon has also been recognised for its contribution to develop a website www.doc.telangana.gov.in under the project ‘Our Art-Our Identity’ through which the Department of Language and Culture has created a platform for artists to list themselves on the site.
The platform was created to list 4 lakh Telangana artists with all key details about them. It enabled artists to enlist themselves on the site from anywhere.
A 15-member team has worked on the platform for six months that made it possible to register 16,000 artists in just four months. The award has been given for the creation of Department of Culture website that enabled creation of online identity cards for artists from across the State.
In addition to integrating the site with the State Government portal, the Digithon team has enabled the site to be accessed at all the Meeseva kendras for artists to enlist themselves.
Skoch award has been given for this initiative. Department of Language and Culture director Mamidi Harikrishna received the award for this achievement.
Sundeep Kumar Makthala, TITA President on the occasion said, Telangana government has provided opportunity to Digithon to take part in crucial initiatives of the State.
Elated to receive the prestigious award, he thanked Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao and the Department of Culture chief to provide an opportunity to contribute. All this was possible with team work, he noted.
He said TITA is working towards Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao’s vision of bringing digitalization to every segment. Digithon will continue to take similar initiatives in future to achieve 100 per cent digital literacy in the State, he assured.
Digithon has already bagged three State-level awards. It has also won awards from the State IT Department for three consecutive years as a part of the IT, E&C Department’s annual report presentation.
Skoch award has added another feather in its cap. TITA’s Digithon’s activities are spread across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
