Muslim intellectuals meet political leaders in Telangana, represent demands

A group of educated men from the Muslim community met Telangana Congress president Uttam Kumar Reddy at Gandhi Bhavan in Nampally today to press their demands for upliftment of the community.

The group, comprising people from different professions under the banner of Karimnagar-based Muslim Elders and Intellectual Forum (MEIF), met the TPCC chief requesting due representation of Muslims in allotting tickets.

Led by its convener Mohammed Fasihuddin, the group also met AICC secretary Saleem Ahmed, senior Telangana Congress leaders Mohammed Ali Shabbir and Abid Rasool Khan in Hyderabad’s Nizam Club.

“The forum [MEIF] is working on multiple verticals including education, employment and wakf protection. Our primary focus is to press political leaders of various parties to ensure due representation of Muslims in politics,” said Abdullah Asim, member of MEIF.

The former students’ leader also said that the empowerment of the community could not be achieved if the political parties only make promises while doing very little.

“The community needs political representation as per their population share for an overall development and empowerment,” the 24-year old Asim remarked.

He added that the group, which comprises advocate Shahid Aqeel, journalist Syed Nizamuddin, government employees Nisar Khan and (reirted) MM Ansari, has plans to meet manifesto committee chairpersons of all political parties in Hyderabad and give their representation.
