Urdu Social Science Congress begins at MANUU

Hyderabad: Social sciences needs to be moulded according to the changing demands to survive. Mere material development is not sufficient for human satisfaction.

Modern society regards human being as a consumer, however, is this consumerism helped the human beings in wiping out poverty, differences and other evils? These thoughts were expressed by eminent economist Prof. S. A. R Bilgrami, from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi today while speaking at inauguration of the second National Urdu Social
Science Congress.

Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor presided over. Centre for Promotion of Knowledge in Urdu of (MANUU) in association with School of Arts and Social Sciences (SA&SS), is organizing the two day Congress. Prof. Bilgrami said that according to the economic theory,when a human being is not satisfied it leads to disequilibrium in the society.

The text book knowledge of social sciences needs to be applied in the real life. Giving examples from economics, he said most of the principles can be successfully applied in the real life. Dr. Mohammad Asalm Parvaiz in his presidential address said that language is a mode of communication and if any language lags behind in providing books based on different knowledge, then the users of the language will opt for other languages to quench their thirst.

Urdu is in dire need of knowledge based books. In order to eradicate this shortage and to make Urdu people
aware of Social Sciences, MANUU had taken the initiative of organising Urdu Science Congress and Urdu Social Sciences Congress. Prof. Mehtab Manzar, Political Science, JMI, Delhi said that even though colonial system has
ended, super powers are targeting the weaker countries by using the name of globalization and liberalization.

However, there has been some improvement on human rights front, she added. She stressed the need to preserve the unit of family, calling it a vital support in promoting social sciences. Prof. Nishat Qaiser, Sociology, JMI, Delhi gave a detailed review of the history and evolution of social sciences in India.

A book “Administration” penned by Dr. Abdul Qayyum, Associate Professor, Dept. of Public Administration was also released on the occasion. Prof. S. M. Rahmathullah, Chairman, Steering Committee in his introductory address spoke about the origin of Urdu language, its relation with social sciences and knowledge.

Prof. Shahida, Convenor, Congress proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Ameena Tahseen, I/c Centre for Women Studies conducted the proceedings and Dr. Abid Moiz, Co-Convenor supervised the arrangements.
