TRS gets BJP shocker in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Lok Sabha elections in Telangana State brought many surprises with the TRS failing to retain pervious numbers and BJP emerging as the second largest group in terms of number of seats they won.

With 9 seats, TRS maintained its lead in 2019 elections. But the BJP delivered a surprise by winning 4 seats. Congress too won 3 seats while the MIM retained its lone seat of Hyderabad.

In 2014 elections, TRS had won 11 seats, followed by 2 seats for Congress and one each for TDP, BJP, YSRCP and MIM. This time, TDP and YSRCP were not in the fray in Lok Sabha elections.

Following are the winners of TRS party: Dr. G. Ranjith Reddy (Chevella), Nama Nageshwar Rao (Khammam), Kavitha Malothu (Mahabubabad), Manne Srinivas Reddy (Mahabubnagar), Kotha Prabhakar Reddy (Medak), Pothuganti Ramulu (Nagarkurnool), Borlakunta Venkatesh Netha (Peddapelle), Dayakar Pasunoori (Warangal) and B.B. Patil (Zahirabad). The BJP winners are: Soyam Bapu Rao (Adilabad); Bandi Sanjay Kumar (Karimnagar); Arvind Dharmapuri (Nizamabad) and G. Kishan Reddy (Secunderabad). The Congress winners are N. Uttam Kumar Reddy (Nalgonda); Komatireddy Venkat Reddy (Bhongir) and A. Revanth Reddy (Malkajgiri). Finally, MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi had won the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat for the fourth consecutive term.

TRS got a vote share of 41.3% followed by Congress – 29.5%, BJP – 19.4% and MIM – 2.8%. In 2014, their vote share was 34.9% for TRS; 24.7% for Congress and 10.5% for BJP.

Although the TRS vote share has increased by nearly 7%, its seats got reduced by 2. Similarly, with an increase of nearly 5% vote share, Congress won an extra seat this time. BJP’s tally increased from 1 to 4 due to increase in vote share by about 9%. (INN)
