‘Telangana Bandh’ passes off peacefully

Hyderabad: The ‘Telangana Bandh‘ call given by RTC Employees JAC and supported by all opposition parties was partial and peaceful.

The RTC employees, who are on strike since October 5, had given the bandh call to pressurise the State Government to fulfil their demands.

The opposition parties including Congress, BJP, CPI, CPI (M), Telangana Jana Samithi, Jana Sena and various trade unions not only supported the bandh call, but took part in the protest on Saturday. Many leaders were arrested by the people at various places in the State.

A few sporadic incidents of violence were also reported where some miscreants pelted stones on RTC buses. A private driver, who was plying a RTC bus, was also attacked.

Those arrested include CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TJS President Prof. M. Kodandaram, MLA Sridhar Babu, ex-MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav, BJP State President Dr. K. Lakshman, CPI Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, CPI (M) leader T. Veerabhadram and others.

They were kept in different police stations after the arrest. Several leaders were also kept in house arrest.

Meanwhile, students of Osmania University staged protest near the NCC gate and burnt the effigy of State Government. Police prevented the OU students from coming out of gate.

A majority of buses remained confined in bus depots on Saturday. (INN)
