Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) cricket team registered an emphatic win over University of Hyderabad (HCU) in the final match of Azad Round Robin League Cricket Tournament 2019-20.
MANUU beat HCU by 70 runs yesterday. This is the second consecutive title win for the host team. The Second Azad Round Robin League Cricket Tournament was organized by Directorate of Physical Education & Sports at Sports complex MANUU.
MANUU reached the finals by beating University of Hyderabad and Nizam Cricket Club teams in the league phase. Prof. Abul kalam, Chairman, Sports Monitoring Committee, MANUU presented the Trophy to the Winners.
According to Dr. A Kaleemullah, Deputy Director, DPE & Sports, in the final MANUU team won the toss and batted first to score 147 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 25 overs. Mahboob Ali top scored 40 runs (4×5), Khursheed & Mujahid supported him with 24 & 22 runs respectively.
In reply UoH could score 77 run only in 21 overs. Sahir & Mehboob took 2 wickets each. Earlier, MANUU scored 185 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 25 overs and won the first match of the tournament playing against HCU. Khursheed Jamal was top scorer with 35 runs (4×3). Mehboob Ali and Ehsan supported him with 28 and 20 runs respectively. Asghar took 4 wickets for 15 runs.
In the second match MANUU batted first and scored 163 runs in 22 Overs against Nizam Cricket Club. Rafeeq was highest scorer with 77 runs (6X1 & 4X 11) and took 4 for 39 runs. NCC scored 153 runs.
The third match was played between University of Hyderabad & Nizam Cricket Club. Batting first Nizam Cricket Club scored 127 runs in 25 Over’s. Manikanta was highest scorer with 57 runs (6X1 & 4X 7) In reply toNCC, University of Hyderabad scored 128 runs. Murli was top scorer with 63runs (4X9).
