Hyderabad The weather eased and Principal Race Officer Renu Rajan from Bombay conducted a full 4 set of races of each for 40 minutes of YAI Monsoon Regatta, therefore finishing 8 races of the targeted 12 race series.
The average winds eased at the Monsoon Regatta to about 9-14 Knots but the gusts were still hitting the 20s and knocked the top seed Ekalavya off his perch to the end of the fleet in race 7.
The girls were both out of form and dropped out of sight and the boys from Bhopal continued to reign supreme with both Eklalavya smashing the day with 3 wins and bad capsize where he finished a sad 19th and Shashank Batham with one win and two seconds in 4 races.
Interestingly both the NSS Bhopal Boys are tied at the end of 8 races with 13 point each but Eklavya the top seed at the Monsoon Regatta has an edge with more wins and is ranked No.1
4 races to go across the next two days and in sailing the old adage goes that ‘anything can happen’ but if all goes according to the current trend the two Bhopal boys are unbeatable for the top two spots.
Hritiek Jaiswal of Trishna Mysore is lying in third position with 27 points while he does stand a remote chance of beating the duo.
The girls racing too seems to be a two-horse race with Divyanshi and Tanuja battling it out for gold while Diyanshi is opening up her lead on Tanuja who had a bad day today.
The Lasers and Green Fleet of Beginners sailed in the afternoon on a separate course and were still racing while this report was being filed.
Final Points Tally at the end of Day 3
Divayanshi Mishra – Bhopal NSS 42 Points
Thanuja Kameshwar – Hyderabad YCH 53 Points
Shagun Jha – Bhopal NSS 101 Points

Hyderabad: Preethi Kongara, 17 and Jhansi Priya, 15 bag Silver and Bronze medals at the final Asian Games Trials at Bombay Harbour in the Olympic 470 Mixed and Asian Games Laser Class respectively
Jhansi opened her series with a bang winning the first race after having judged the complex Bombay tidal conditions brilliantly but with many unforced errors and bad starts in subsequent races ended up with a Bronze Medal behind the more experienced Rithika Dangi and Neha Thakur of Bhopal. She is however a year younger and could well qualify for the 2023 Asiad at China in the qualifiers coming up.
Preethi Kongara was in lower form compared to the 2nd trials held just a week earlier where she won a comfortable Gold. Being the top seed nerves got the better of her and Naval officer crew Sudanshu Shekhar making them anxious and they badly lost a few races and were unable to recover giving the Sharma and Uma Chauhan pair an unassailable lead to clinch Gold.
Preethi and Sudanshu were placed 3rd and 4 points behind Ramya and Reddy at the beginning of the last day of racing when they regained form and beat them significantly to down them by 4 points in the final tally to win the Silver much to the dismay of Ramya Sarvanan and Reddy who settled for Silver.
“We lost coordination and made too many mistakes in the first 2 days of the championship and by the time it was too late to come back at the top “, said Preethi , “but we saved our silver on the last day and that was a bitter sweet end “, she continued.
With the Asian Games postponed and no clear date the Yachting Association of India is bound to hold another series of trials and that throws the selections and ranking open once again giving both Preethi and Jhansi a good chance at the 2022 Asiad as well as for Preethi at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Both girls are training hard at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad under the mentorship of their coach and director of the Naavika Project , Suheim Sheikh .
“We have worked hard to reach this stage and the girls deserve all the praise and encouragement possible and hopefully full state government support “ , said Lt.Gen KS Rao, President of the Telangana Sailing Association in a telecon from the US
Ravali Parandi also of Telangana shocked the top seeds with a win in one race and an overall 4th finish on her debut often trouncing a more experienced fleet of sailors.
Preethi has now set eyes on the World Championships at Israel to be held in October along with her compatriot sailors from Telangana, Dharani Laveti, Ravali Parandi and Lakshmi Nookarathnam.

Meanwhile, Thangboi Singto has been appointed as the club’s Technical Director, and Reserve Team Head Coach Shameel Chembakath has been promoted as the First Team Assistant Coach ahead of upcoming ISL season.
As the new Sporting Director of Hyderabad FC, Appu Jose will be in charge of taking forward the club’s vision and philosophy. He will coordinate with the Head Coach and other Technical Staff for all the technical matters. His core responsibilities will involve scouting, recruiting and transfer decisions of players as well as technical and sporting staff hirings.
Thangboi Singto, who served as the club’s first team assistant coach over the last two seasons, will be the club’s Technical Director. In his new role, Thangboi Singto will focus on building the club’s youth structure which forms a key part of the HFC philosophy. He will nurture and oversee various HFC Club and Academy partnerships in Telangana as well as other parts of the country.
Thangboi Singto will also assist in building the football ecosystem in the region especially Hyderabad and will work closely with the respective stakeholders. One of the core areas he will also focus on is the Coach Education and Train the Trainers program that will see coaches progress through the club and its partners.
Reserve Team Head Coach Shameel will be promoted as the First Team Assistant Coach starting 2022-23 season. This appointment will be a great platform for him to work closely with Club Head Coach Manolo Marquez and add value to the senior team. While Coach Education will be one of the club’s key focus areas, the pathway for their development and progress is equally important. This appointment will encourage young aspiring coaches as well.
Speaking on the appointments, Hyderabad FC Co-Owner Varun Tripuraneni said, “We have made three key appointments in the club, keeping in mind the club’s direction and vision. We want to build on last season’s success, and we believe we have the right team in place. I wish Thangboi, Appu and Shameel all the very best in their roles for the upcoming season.”
Goa: Having missed out on the league shield by a whisker, Hyderabad FC will be determined to make a good start to the race for the Indian Super League trophy when they host ATK Mohun Bagan at Bambolim in the first leg of the semi-final on Saturday, March 12.
HFC, who were the first team to qualify for the semi-finals, were also the top goal scorers in the league phase, and are fresh from a 2-1 win over Mumbai City FC. ATK Mohun Bagan finished 3rd in the league table, losing to Jamshedpur in the final round to bow out of the race to the league shield.
Having qualified for this stage for the first time in their history, Hyderabad FC will be committed to going all the way and Head Coach Manolo Marquez believes that his side will leave no stone unturned in their quest for the trophy.
“We lost a few players to COVID after the Mumbai game but in terms of football, we will arrive to this game pretty well. So, we are ready and prepared to take on a very good team in ATKMB,” said Manolo, speaking about his side’s preparations ahead of this game.
“Our team is full young and brave players and most of them are without fear. It is the final phase of the season, so we have to enjoy this historic moment for Hyderabad,” he added.
Juan Ferrando’s men were one of just four teams to beat Hyderabad FC in the league phase. The likes of Liston Colaco, Manvir Singh, David Williams, Tiri, Joni Kauko and Roy Krishna have been in superb form this season and will be the danger men for Hyderabad FC once again in this game.
Speaking about the quality of the opponents from tomorrow, Manolo said, “I know that ATK Mohun Bagan have so many players, who are in the lineup for the national team. It is not just about Liston. There are a lot of others, may be seven to eight players that can score goals and win games for them.”
“We have Bart who scored lots of goals and ATKMB have Liston. But it is more than just these two guys. It is possible that this game will be decided by other players,” Manolo added.
Bartholomew Ogbeche, who missed the last two league games, is still leading the Golden Boot race with 17 goals from 17 games. He has been supported well by the likes of Javi Siverio, Aniket Jadhav, Joel Chianese and Nikhil Poojary, who have all been among the goals.
Hyderabad also have the second best defense in the league with the partnership of Juanan and Chinglensana Konsham keeping things tight at the back. The support of Joao Victor in the middle and Akash Mishra on the wings has also been helpful.
With both teams full of quality players, this game will be a tough one for the two teams and Manolo Marquez believes that his side are ready for it. “I think we will play against a very strong team. We may have doubts about our physical conditions after the COVID wave but in terms of mentality and football, our team is ready to fight for a place in the finals,” said the Spaniard.
HFC are yet to beat the Mariners under Manolo Marquez but with a place in the final on the line, the boys from Hyderabad will be ready to give their best. The game kicks off at 7:30 pm on Saturday and will be telecasted live on the Star Sports Network with live streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and JioTV.
Goa: After a tough night against Jamshedpur FC that effectively ended their shot at the League Shield, Hyderabad FC are back in action when they take on Mumbai City FC in the final league stage game of the Indian Super League this season, in a 9:30 pm kick-off at Fatorda this Saturday.
Hit by COVID at the wrong time, Hyderabad were forced to field a depleted XI for the previous game and could be in a similar position this Saturday. HFC can only finish as high as 2nd in the league table, but Mumbai City need a win in this game to stay in contention for a place in the top-4.
The Islanders, currently fifth in the league table with 31 points, are fresh from a loss to Kerala Blasters and need to come back strongly to keep their play-off hopes alive this season.
The likes of Igor Angulo, Cassio Gabriel, Mourtada Fall, Bipin Singh, and Diego Mauricio have been few of their in-form players. Coach Des Buckingham will hope to name a strong squad given that he will be missing the services of defender Rahul Bheke and attacker Lallianzuala Chhangte who serve their individual one game suspension.
Hyderabad FC on the other hand, could still have players missing, but after a forgettable night against Jamshedpur, Manolo Marquez will hope that his side can bounce back and finish the league campaign with a positive result.
HFC were on the winning side when the two teams met earlier in the season at Fatorda, with goals from Rohit Danu, Bartholomew Ogbeche and Joao Victor sealing the deal on the night.
The game kicks-off at 9:30 pm IST on Saturday and will be telecasted live on the Star Sports Network with live streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and JioTV.
Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University’s Athletes will participate in the All India Inter University Best Physique Championship 2021-22 to be held at Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab from 8th to 12th March 2022.
According to Dr. A Kaleemulla, Deputy Director, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Mohd Abu Osama and Mohd Farhan students of MSW will represent MANUU and they will leave on March 05 to participate in the competition. The selected athletes have attended the 10 days training/coaching camp under the supervision of Mr. Mohd Mahmood, Fitness Trainer and he will also accompany the team as the coach.
Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor while interacting with the team members said sports men needs to concentrate on fitness and training to perform well and rest leave on God. He handed over the sports kit to the team members and extended his good wishes. Prof. Mohammed Abdul Azeem, Chairman, Sports & Games Committee and Dr. Md. Habeebullah, Assistant Director Sports were also present on the occasion.
Goa: After a morale-boosting win over FC Goa, Hyderabad FC are back in action in a blockbuster of an Indian Super League clash when they welcome Kerala Blasters to Bambolim this Wednesday.
With five wins in their last six games, HFC are at the top of the league table with 32 points from 17 games, and a win in this game will confirm HFC’s qualification to the play-offs. The Blasters, fresh from a 2-2 draw with ATK Mohun Bagan, are currently fourth in the table, with 27 points from 16 games.
Ivan Vukomanović’s side, who stand as the best defense in the league so far this season, have been one of the most consistent teams in the competition. HFC Head Coach Manolo Marquez believes that his side will be up against a very tough team on Wednesday.
“Every opponent is different. We don’t really know how this game will turn out so we have to be fully focused against a tough side tomorrow,” said Manolo.
The Blasters could make a few changes to their lineup with Sandeep Singh (accumulation of yellow cards) and Jorge Pereyra (red card) both suspended. But the likes of Alvaro Vasquez, Adrian Luna, Sahal Abdul Samad, Harmanjot Khabra, Jeakson Singh and Puitea have been in fine form since the start of the season.
Speaking about the opponents, Manolo Marquez said, “Kerala is currently having their best ever season in the ISL. They have very good players, especially in attack and they are very consistent everywhere on the field. They have experienced players but so do we.”
“Like the game earlier this season, tomorrow could be another close game and this time we want to get the win,” he added.
ISL’s leading goal scorer with 16 goals this season, Bartholomew Ogbeche, will be the biggest threat for the visitors on Wednesday. But the likes of Javi Siverio, Nikhil Poojary and Joel Chianese have also been fruitful in front of goal in the last few games.
Skipper Joao Victor has also been among the goals but his efforts in the midfield to shield the HFC backline have been crucial to the club’s run in this season.
Speaking about the permutations around the league table, Manolo further added, “May be people don’t think about it much but if we win this game, we are mathematically in the top-4. So, this game is very important. But when we lost games earlier in the season, the team has reacted really well so it is not all over if we don’t win tomorrow.”
“However, we are only thinking about giving our best in this game. We know it will be a tough game. But it will be a tough game for Kerala as well,” Manolo added.
Hyderabad can move to 35 points with a win in this game, which will secure them a place in the play-offs. But having lost 1-0 to the Blasters in the reverse fixture earlier this season, Manolo’s men will have to be at their best to secure all three points on the night.
“We are always looking to improve,” said Manolo speaking ahead of this game. “The perfect team doesn’t exist. We are happy for our season so far but nothing is decided yet and we will try out best to win this game,” the Spaniard added.
With the best defense in the league in Kerala and the best attack in the league in Hyderabad going up against each other, this Wednesday night clash promises to be a Blockbuster at Bambolim.
The game kicks off at 7:30 pm on Wednesday and will be telecasted live on the Star Sports Network with live streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and JioTV.
