Ensure effective implementation of the new municipal act: Minister KTR to MA&UD Officials

Hyderabad: Talking to the Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations and newly posted IAS officers in the Municipal Administration & Urban Development department, Minister K. Tarakarama Rao said that the new Municipal Act should be implemented effectively.

KTR gave an overview of the New Municipal Act and urged the officers to implement it with zeal and spirit. He stated that Municipal Commissioners should ensure proper drinking water supply, sanitation maintenance and an increase in green cover in Municipal Corporations.

The Minister stated that the new act will be citizen-centric and people-friendly in the municipalities. He also stated that the act will bring in a set of rules in order to provide fast, transparent, and corruption-free governance.

Speaking to the officials, the Minister said that unlike any other State in India, the TS-bPass will grant permissions to a citizen within 21 days to construct a house.

He stated that the building permissions should be granted within the given timeframe and in a fair manner. He also said that indulging in any kind of corruption will call for stringent action against the officials.

KTR asked the officials to come up with innovative programs to level up sanitation works in the municipalities. He instructed the officials to increase the number of public toilets and SHE toilets for women in the corporations and municipalities.

The Minister stated that 10% of the funds from the budget allocated to municipal works should be utilized to increase the green cover in the municipalities. Minister instructed the officials to come up with a green plan in every municipality, similar to that of the sanitation plan.

To fight seasonal diseases, the Minister asked the officials to come up with health plans. If needed, the officials should rope in doctors and entomologists in preparing the plans.

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, Municipal Administration Director & Commissioner Dr. N. Satyanarayana, HMWSSB MD Dana Kishore and GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar were present in the meeting. (INN)
