TS Govt sanctions Rs. 545 Cr for construction of bridges across Musi, Esa Rivers

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government on Saturday accorded administrative sanction for an amount of Rs 545 crore for the construction of 15 bridges across the rivers Musi and Esa for better connective for the areas on both sides and for the development of surrounding areas all along the river.

The sanction was accorded following a report submitted by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Ltd. “While there are a number of bridges across Musi River, most of them were built quite a while ago and the city has seen exponential growth since then on both sides of the river. A situation has come wherein these bridges are not able to take the traffic load and there is a crying need to have more bridges and better connectivity across the Musi River for its entire stretch. Keeping in view of the growing population, better road network and density of traffic, a detailed traffic study was done to assess the locations where additional bridges should be constructed across Musi. Based on the traffic study and also with a view to strengthening some of the existing bridges, a total of new bridges have been worked out,” Special Chief Secretary to Telangana Government (Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department) Arvind Kumar said in GO Rt No 37 issued on Saturday.

The sanctioned works include the construction of an iconic pedestrian bridge at Afzalgunj on Musi River at a cost of Rs. 40 crore.

The expenditure for these works would be met 50% from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and 50% from bank borrowing by GHMC and the actual allocation of bridges to executing agency will be worked by the MA&UD Department.  (INN)
