Hyderabad: Telangana government has issued administrative sanction for the purchase and distribution of Adolescent Kits with an estimated amount of Rs 69.52 crores across the state. The Health Secretary has issued GO in this regard. This was on par with the announcement made by the government in the past. As part of this program, sanitary pads and hygiene kits would be distributed among adolescent girls free of cost.
These pads will be distributed among the 11 lakh girls studying from 8th standard to 12th in the state. The kit includes six sanitary packs, a water bottle, and a bag. The government would purchase 22 lakh kits for the year 2023-24 for distribution. The TRS government had announced plans to distribute these kits during the assembly session early this year.As per the National Family Health Survey-5, about 32 per cent of the girls aged between 15-24 years were reportedly using clothes in place of napkins resulting in urinary tract infections and vaginal infections. The move of distributing adolescent kits aims at helping girls to continue their education with a focus on healthy living. (INN)
