Kanti-Velugu meant to eradicate eye-related ailments: Harish Rao

Hyderabad: Health and Family Welfare Minister T Harish Rao said that the Kanti Velugu scheme was meant for reducing ailments related to eyes and defective eyesight among the people.

The Minister conducted a video conference through Jagtial district collectorate with all district collectors and other officials on the implementation of Kanti Velugu in districts on Tuesday.

Health Commissioner Shweta Mahanty, Public Health Director Srinivas and other officials were present at this conference in person. The minister on this occasion said that the government was organizing the Kanti Velugu in a great way.

He advised the officials to take additional interest in the implementation of the Kanti Velugu-2 program that would be rolled out on January 18, 2023, and asked the officials to make all necessary arrangements.

Harish Rao informed that the first phase of the program in the past was held for 8 months and the second phase would be conducted for 100 working days in the state. He said that the target was to screen 3 crore people under the scheme and asked the officials to plan the program by doing microplanning and involving the public representatives positively.

He said that this would be the world’s biggest program of screening people on such a scale under Kanti Velugu. Stating that the screening teams were increased for Kanti Velugu-2 this time, he said that each district must have additional 5 teams in the buffer.The Minister informed that the health department was appointing 960 new doctors in a week or so. He asked the officials to ensure that there would be no disturbance in regular healthcare services during the Kanti  Velugu program. He said that the government had sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the program. (INN)
