MANUU Social Work Club Commemorates World Social Work Day

Hyderabad: The Department of Social Work, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) today marked World Social Work Day focusing on the theme “Shared Future for Transformative Change”. The event, aimed to shed light on pressing social issues and the pivotal role of social workers in addressing them, was organized by MANUU Social Work Club (SWC).

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Md Shahid Raza, who emphasized the catalytic role social workers play in improving the conditions of marginalized groups. Prof. Mohd Shahid, Head, Department of Social Work, reiterated the importance of engaging with critical issues of social injustice and global inequalities.

Earlier, Mohd. Arif, Secretary, SWC briefed about the significance and historical context of World Social Work Day. Nazeer Kalim, Abdul Majid, and Hamza Mannan recited poetry and shared insights on utilizing poetry as a tool for fostering critical perspectives on issues like structural inequalities, injustice, and oppression.

Students – Fouzia and Naushaba delivered speeches on “Education for Marginalized Communities” and “Social Work Environment” respectively, emphasizing the importance of education and creating healthy environments for human survival and prosperity. A quiz competition was conducted by Afroz Afreen and Mohd Rehan. Students also showcased posters addressing various social problems, aligning with the theme of the day. These posters served as visual representations of the challenges faced by communities worldwide.

Tasmiya Mukhtiyar Ahmad proposed a vote of thanks. Students’ Advisors – Dr. Abul Salim Khan and Md Israr Alam assisted in making the event successful.
