Free internet to every household in 18 months: KTR

Hyderabad: Minister for IT and Industries K. Tarakarama Rao said that the state government was striving to empower the citizens of the state by providing internet to every household in the next one and half year.

Speaking at the 57th annual general body meeting of the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in Hyderabad on Saturday, the minister said that state government was giving a major boost to the IT sector through its various policies.

He said that the T-Hub and Digital Telangana initiates started to encourage startups were gaining appreciations from various quarters of the IT world.

KTR said that the state government has launched a Water Grid project to provide drinking water to every household in Telangana for which trenches are being dug up to lay pipelines.

He said that the government has decided lay fiber optic cable along with the water pipelines to ensure that people receive free internet along with basic needs like water.

The minister said that in the next 18 month every household will get internet for free.

Speaking on the occasion Union IT and Law minster Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Union Government was aiming to empower people with Digital India initiative.

He said that of the 19,000 startups in the country 5,000 came up in the last two years which shows the revolution in the IT sector. (INN)
