Zinda Dilan-e-Hyderabad: Poets reignite spirit with humor and satire

Ever smile and laugh in life, and never let anyone know you are married. Thus started much-awaited annual laughter event ‘Zinda Dilan-e-Hyderabad’ at Numaish Grounds in Nampally yesterday.

Introducing the All India Urdu Mushaira, its compere poet Feroz Rasheed reflected up on the pain of writing poetry as:

Nahi hai asan gazal ka likhna, poocho in fankaro se

Yeh sab loha kaat rahe hai, kagaz ki talwaro se

[Meaning: It isn’t easy to compose gazal, ask these artists. They are cutting iron with paper swords.]

Zinda Dilan-e-Hyderabad celebrated its 51st annual functions amid hundreds of cheering audience and a host of popular personalities of the city, including Prof. S A Shukoor, Dr Mohd. Ali Rafat IAS, and Syed Omar Jaleel IAS.

Zinda Dili of Hyderabadis

Reciting on the occasion, poet Najeeb Ahmed Najeeb reminded participants about ‘zinda dili’ or lively spirit of Hyderabadis when he spoke:

Zindagi me muskurana chahiye, khoob hasna hasana chahiye

The cultural evenings powered with laughter, popularly known as Mushaira in Urdu, are quite common in Deccani culture. These Mushairas have special significance for Urdu lovers.

Black Money and Modi

In his typical Deccani style, Waheed Pasha Quadri satirized demonetization and Modi bhakts in following stanza:

Modi ke geet gaate hai bankon ke samne,

Yun sare be suro ko woh qawwal kardiya

Daaku bhi aake kehte hai aye waheed

Choro ne saare desh ko kngal kar diya.
