BC Commission extends public hearing on Muslim quota for two days

Hyderabad: The four day Public Hearing Programme on enhancement of reservations for Backward Classes among Muslims conducted by the Telangana State Commission for Backward Classes passed off peacefully on Saturday.

Around 421 representations were received adding to a total of 13,780 including online submissions. Several intellectuals, youth, professional and political forums belonging to Muslim Community, and representatives of caste organizations,

BC organisations and Welfare Societies of Hindu Community, and a number of individuals including woman from diverse social and economic strata appeared before the BC Commission, many of whom articulated their views.

Almost all representatives from Muslim Community have argued in support of 12% reservations, where as those from Hindu Community stated that it was not a matter of concern for them if the enhanced reservations are implemented without tinkering the existing quota for Hindu BCs.

Some organizations like BC Hakkula Samithi, Munnuru Kapu Sangam, Reddy Jagruthi, etc., said that they were opposed to increase of reservations to Muslims.

Public Hearing programme on Saturday received overwhelming response from public. Eminent persons including legislators Akbaruddin Owaisi, Farooq Hussain, Aamer Shakeel, Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri, Syed Altaf Hyder Razvi, Kauser Mohiuddin, Bhaskar Rao and A. Jeevan Reddy, Aamer Ali Khan (News Editor, Siasat Daily), Khan Lateef Khan (Editor, The Munsif Daily), Congress leaders Shaik Abdullah Sohail and Syed Nizamuddin, Jaleel Ahmed (President, All India Majlis Tameer Millat), Ghiasuddin, Babu Khan, BC Front Chairman Palaru Rama Krishnaiah and other leaders appeared before the commission.

Speaking to media persons later, BC Commission chairman B.S. Ramulu, Members Dr. Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao and Dr. Anjaneya Goud and Juluru Gowri Shankar and Member Secretary G.D.Aruna, announced that the Public Hearing programme has been extended for another two days. Therefore, petitions and affidavits can also be submitted by public on 18th and 19th of December. (INN)
