Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday upheld the ban on cockfighting and directed the state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to ensure the ban is implemented strictly.
The High Court passed the orders on petitions filed by various animal rights groups and other organization that brought to the notice of the Court that cockfight was being conducted every year on Sankranti in violation of the ban.
It may be mentioned here that the High Court in 2014 had ordered a ban on cockfights which was challenged by a politician from Andhra Pradesh in the Supreme Court, which in turn had ordered a status quo and directed the High Court to take up the case again. (INN)
