MANUU organizes exhibition on first war of independence

Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University celebrated Republic Day on Thursday by hoisting the national tricolor and organizing an exhibition on 1857—the first war of Independence.

After hosting the flag, MANUU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz told the MANUU community that it should work harder in making the University a spring of knowledge and love to serve the entire nation. “The times demand that we focus on the factors that bind our nation and promoting them,” he said.

M K Raina, awarding winning theater personality, asked the students to rediscover India by working among the underprivileged sections of the society. “Go to the areas where the poor live. Go to the places where villagers live. See what you can gain from them. Also, ensure that you impart knowledge which could serve them better,” he said.

M V Krishna Rao, former Director General of India Nepal and Tibet Borders Guarding Force and Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, took the audience back to the 1857 war where all communities fought together against the tyrannical colonial rule.

He said that the time has for the country to demonstrate that kind of unity. “We are a leader in the world affairs. We need to improve upon that position and at the same time serve our people, irrespective of their caste, creed and religion, better. We are one people, one nation. We should demonstrate that position again and again,” he said.

The exhibition was organized by the university in collaboration with the Delhi-based NGO Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (Sahmet) that was founded in memory of theater personality Safdar Hashmi.

Anis Azmi, Chief Consultant, Centre for Urdu Culture Studies, who organized the exhibition said that he was amazed at the talent available at the university.

These talents have to be spotted and groomed, he added. He thanked the staff and students for their unstinted cooperation and participation in making the programs a grand success.

The exhibition will remain open for the next two days. (INN)
