L&T may get two years’ extension to complete Metro Rail

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Managing Director NVS Reddy on Saturday said that the State Government might give two years’ extension to L&T to complete the Metro Rail project.

Speaking to media persons after inspecting the works on Metro Rail Over Bridges at Oliphenta and Alugaddabavi, Reddy said that the Metro Rail project got delayed due to nearly 350 different cases filed against it.

He said that the decision on extension would be taken by the State Government on technical grounds.

NVS Reddy said that no decision has been taken on Metro Rail alignment in the Old City. He said that the L&T has been asked to submit a report on the issue and a final decision would be taken after submission of report.

Meanwhile, sources said that two Metro Rail corridors from Miyapur-SR Nagar (11 KM) and Uppal-Mettuguda (8 KM) were ready to be made operation by June-July this year.

However, a final decision in this regard would be taken by the State Government. But experts have advised against launching the services on these corridors as they would be economically unviable. (INN)
