BJP holds protest against Muslim reservation

Hyderabad: Hundreds of BJP leaders and workers were arrested by the police when they held demonstrations before District Collectorates across Telangana State on Monday in protest against Muslim reservation provided by the State Government.

BJP National General Secretary Muralidhar Rao, MLC Ramchander Rao and other leaders were arrested when they tried to barge into Hyderabad District Collectors. Mild tension prevailed at the Collectorate when the BJP workers entered into argument with the police personnel and tried to break the security cordon.

Speaking to media persons, Muralidhar Rao said that the State Government took one sided decision of giving reservation to Muslims in the State.

He said that the High Court has rejected the Muslim quota twice. However, by introducing a new Bill, TRS Government has violated the Constitution.

Telangana BJP President Dr. K. Lakshman said that his party would stop the implementation of Reservation Bill at any cost. He said that the Bill has no technical or legal validity. He accused Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao of misrepresenting the statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on backward Muslims.

He said that the Prime Minister advocated equal growth opportunities for Muslims, but not favour reservation on the basis of religion. He said that the enhancement of quota for BC-E Muslims would hurt the interest of Backward Classes.

Lakshman announced that the BJP would continue its protest against Muslim reservation across the State. (INN)
