Annapurna scheme crosses one crore meals

Hyderabad: The Annapurna Scheme, initiated by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Telangana Government and being implemented by Hare Krishna Movement, has crossed the milestone of 1 crore meals in this month.

Annapurna Program was started on 2nd March 2014 in eight centres with 1,500 meals a day supplied at Rs. 5 per meal. Within a short span of time, the scheme was expanded to 50 centres.

The State Government later took a decision to expand the program to 150 centres and as part of the expansion plan, the GHMC has opened 100th centre in Saroor Nagar on 19th February this year feeding 25,000 meals every day.

Currently, the Annapurna meals are being served to 35,000 people every day through 141 centres in Hyderabad.

The Annapurna scheme is benefitting all classes people especially daily wage workers, patients, drivers, students etc., (INN)
