TS Govt to establish modern market for Pochampally handlooms

Hyderabad: Industries Minister K. Tarakarama Rao said that the Telangana Government would soon establish a modern market for Pochampally handlooms.

Speaking after launching a saving scheme for weavers at Pochampally on Saturday, KTR said that the Pochammpally handlooms were famous all over the world and the modern market was being established to further boost their sales. He said that land has already been acquired and the construction of market would begin soon.

He said that the State Government was taking measures to promote the handlooms and help the weavers. He said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was aware of the problems being faced by the weavers and for the same reason he allocated Rs. 75 crore in this year’s budget for their welfare.

KTR said that the State Government has allocated Rs. 1283 in the budget for 2017-18 for the promotion of Handlooms and Textiles in the State.

He said the material used by the weavers was being provided at 50% subsidy. He said the welfare measures would be implemented by forming an association of weavers of Gadwal, Narayanpet and Dubbak.

The minister also informed that the Chief Minister would soon lay the foundation stone for the construction of Kakatiya Mega Textiles Park in warangal. He said another Apparel Park was being established in Sircilla at a cost of Rs. 30 crore. He said the Union Finance Ministry has been represented seeking GST exemptions for handlooms. (INN)
